THE COOK ISLANDS

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
You can reach the Cook Islands from a number of international gateways:
New Zealand, Auckland - Air New Zealand offering daily and sometimes twice daily service. Jet star offering up to Three return flights per week. Flight time of under 4 hours
Tahiti, Papeete - Air Rarotonga offering a weekly (increasing to twice weekly in 2023), Flight time of 2 hour and 40 minutes
Australia, Sydney - from 29th June 2023, Jetstar will operate a twice weekly flight in each direction, flight time approximately 6-7 hours
USA, Honolulu, Hawaii - from 20th May 2023, Hawaiian Airlines will operate a weekly service, flight time of approximately 5.5-6 hours
DOMESTIC TRAVEL
Domestic flights are operated by Air Rarotonga with daily flights to Aitutaki and scheduled flights to the other islands.
CURRENCY
The Cook Islands unit of currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZD), supplemented by notes and coinage. The unique local coins and notes are not negotiable outside of the Cook Islands, but are keenly sought by collectors worldwide.
TIME ZONE
Cook Islands’ time is GMT-10 hours.
DRESS
Althugh the dress code is informal, we do ask that brief attire not be worn when visiting towns or villages. Nude or topless sunbathing will cause offence. A light sweater may come in handy for the cooler evenings.
DRIVING
Vehicles are driven on the left hand side of the road. Drivers of all vehicles are required to have a valid driver's licence issued in their own country. For those renting Motor Bikes / Scooters, the wearing of helmets is compulsary.
WEATHER & SEASONS
Always a good time to visit, the Cook Islands enjoy a pleasant warm and sunny climate all year round. June to August are slightly cooler months, November to March marks the warmer season, with occasional tropical showers. The drier months, from April to November, average 26°C. The warmer, more humid and damp season is from December to March, with temperatures ranging between 22°C (min) and 30°C (max).
