New Travel Guidance for British Citizens Visiting Gibraltar
Ahead of the implementation of the UK-EU Agreement in respect of Gibraltar, we are pleased to share new travel guidance for travellers and organisers.
On 15 July 2026, the UK–EU Agreement in respect of Gibraltar - the treaty - is set to be implemented. The way short-stay visitors enter Gibraltar will change. The guidance explains what British citizens who are not resident in Gibraltar need to know: visas, passport validity, and the checks they will meet at Gibraltar International Airport.
As this is a transitional period, please encourage visitors to check the latest position before travelling on the FCDO's Gibraltar page: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/gibraltar. A public-awareness campaign will follow across Visit Gibraltar's channels, and we will keep audiences posted as the arrangements bed in.
Gibraltar shares this with real optimism. The treaty gives Gibraltar the legal certainty and stability on which a thriving visitor economy depends. It secures Gibraltar's enduring ties with the United Kingdom while building the closest possible relationship with the European Union - and it makes our land border more fluid: once visitors have cleared entry, they can easily move into Spain and the wider Schengen Area.
For our industry, this is an opportunity. A safe, secure and beneficial agreement, bespoke to Gibraltar's needs, positions Gibraltar - a proudly British destination at the gateway to the Mediterranean - for new regional connections and itineraries with our neighbours. We look forward to making the most of it together.
